Portable Granted Bail Over Alleged Assault, Theft
On Monday, the magistrate court in Ifo, Ogun State granted bail to Habeeb Okikiola, a Nigerian singer who is widely known as Portable and has been at the center of controversy. As Naija News previously reported, Portable was recently arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command on three charges related to alleged assault and theft of musical equipment.
As previously reported, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force's Public Relations Officer, stated that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, will face multiple charges related to the alleged assault and inciting comments against the police. Adejobi explained that Portable will be charged for assaulting an individual in Ota, who filed a petition to CP Ogun. In addition, there are other pending cases of assaults and attacks, which have been reported against him. Adejobi emphasized that there will be no special treatment for Portable, and he will be investigated thoroughly. Ultimately, the judge will decide on the charges, and Portable does not have constitutional immunity.
Last week, the police began an investigation into a popular singer after he made explosive claims in an Instagram Live video. The singer alleged that police officers had attacked his bar in Sango Ota at the behest of an online scammer.
Following the video's viral spread and ensuing controversy, the musician was invited to the Ogun State Police Command's headquarters. Despite repeated invitations, however, the artist, who insisted that he earns his money through legitimate means, ignored the requests, even referring to himself as "a federal government liability."
After a 72-hour ultimatum to turn himself in lapsed, the 29-year-old was apprehended by the police on Friday. The investigation into the singer's claims and his subsequent arrest is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
